Keeping an Object upright?

Hi,
I am searching for a good idea to keep an object upright.
I am looking for a possibility (for teaching purpose) *without* Python, but will be happy for *all* suggestions. My experiments with TrackTo were not very promising.
One more: It is for a flying device.
Why do I ask here (first)? Because I have done nice things with the DoRot and DoFh thingie in Sumo, so I am seeking for ideas and want to give ideas what a user needs.
