startStateLogging on Ubuntu 18

Has anyone had issues trying to make mp4 files on Ubuntu 18? I am using code that works on my mac fine but it produces no output on Ubuntu. I have tried all sorts of filenames and paths to no avail.

Relevant line: log_id = p.startStateLogging(p.STATE_LOGGING_VIDEO_MP4, filename)
